We here at Movies To Watch Tonight realize that a lot of viewers didn’t like the original The Expendables with Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li and numerous B actors. To be honest there wasn’t a lot to like about The Expendables although Jason Statham did a good job with the script handed to him. But The Expendables 2 is actually a lot better in our opinion here at Movies To Watch Tonight because the actors realize they are staring in an 80’s style action flick that is making fun of itself.
The Expendables 2 is not a 3 star movie as far as Movies To Watch Tonight is concerned, but as far as entertainment for guys go, it’s probably a 4 out of 5.
Movies To Watch Tonight Plot Overview Of The Expendables 2
In the sequel, The Expendables 2 the minor characters get the plot right. Stallone has his usual band of tough guys who somehow make a living out of shooting up bad guys who are intent on doing a lot of damage to the rest of the world. In The Expendables 2, that bad ass guy is played by Jean-Claude Van Damme who does a pretty decent job as the “baddie” intent on getting his hands on a nuclear grade material buried after the collapse of the Soviet Union. The rest of the plot is simply Stallone and his gang of tough guys going after Van Damme.
What Movies to Watch Tonight Liked About The Expendables 2
While the plot is nothing to write about and probably it didn’t take much to write this plot, the movie has excellent cameo appearances of Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis and Chuck Norris and the dialog pokes fun at past movie box office hits by all the actors. Schwarzenegger keeps repeating “I’ll be back” until Willis tells him “you’ve been back enough already”, to which Schwarzenegger replies “Yippe Kai Yay”. I’m sure you get the idea. The movie The Expendables 2 realizes that it is a B action movie that has a following from the original The Expendables and they are building on that fan base. No point in taking themselves seriously which is exactly why The Expendables 2 works.
What Movies to Watch Tonight Didn’t Liked About The Expendables 2
We at Movies To Watch Tonight found numerous things we didn’t like. The dialog is corny on purpose but the plot is way too predictable. From the very outset you know who is going to get killed. You know there will be a big fight scene between Van Damme and Stallone although it would have been more interesting to watch Jet Li fight Van Damme. The cameo appearances of Schwarzenegger, Willis and Jet Li are too small but somehow it works. Thankfully Chuck Norris’s role is incredibly small because we here at Movies To Watch Tonight don’t believe Norris can act.
